About Matt

Matt Tiemeyer

I took a unique path to becoming a therapist, having spent nearly eight years developing software in the heart of the Midwest. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling from the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology in 2004. This crossover experience allows me to bridge from the world of therapy to the nine-to-five (seven-to-seven?) business world.

Just as my past is part of me today, I believe that the same is true for my clients. The most powerful changes we can make for the future come within the context of understanding our pasts. Some of our adaptations to past events in our lives work well in the short term, but less so over time. Our work often involves understanding these ways of being and finding new solutions, paving the way for a future free of old obstacles.

Above all, I recognize that the relationship between client and therapist must be safe, honest, and trustworthy. I take active steps to monitor the process with my clients and maintain the kind of relationship that allows and encourages healing. In addition, our interpersonal interactions often provide insight into ways in which you respond to others and how they may respond to you. Our relationship is the ground for healing, growth, and transformation.

Training and Focus

I gained my internship experience with Sea Mar Behavioral Health in Tacoma, Washington. There I worked with individuals struggling with poverty, depression, anxiety, medical problems, and various forms of abuse.

Since 2009, I have been a facilitator for a number of individual and marital workshops, offering guidance as attendees seek healing in their lives and relationships.

I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington. I work with individual adults, teens 15 and older, and couples. In addition to talk therapy, I offer Lifespan Integration to individuals as a tool to deal with traumas of various kinds.
